Rainseng & Mudside will be performing Saturday, November 7, at the Together Coffeehouse, and Saturday, November 21, at the Tenth Muse Coffeehouse. Driginal feminist music combining jazz, pop and blues--also humorous and instrumental pieces. The Together Coffeehouse is at the Gay Community Center, 2841 West 14th St., with music beginning at 8:30. The Tenth Muse is located at 202 N. Lincoln behind the Hillel House near Kent State. The Women's Open House series of monthly coffeehouses will open its second season on Saturday, October 24, at 1651 Glenmont Road, Cleveland Heights, from 8:00 p.m. until midnight. Back by popular demand are Janice and Judee Dzigiel from Kent. This Open House will feature a raffle with prizes such as a digital watch, engraving pens, frozen yogurt pies and more. As usual, coffee, teas, juice and snacks will be available from the gourmet kitchen.
The Open House collective is in the process of locating nonresidential spaces for future events. We're interested in hearing from anyone with ideas. We are also looking for women musicians and other artists and performers who would like to share their talents in an informal, supportive environment.
The Women's Open House provides a relaxed, chemical-free social space for all women., A $1.00 donation is asked at the door for the entertainment. For more information, call 371-0483.
Last November 16, 2500 women from all over the Northeast came to Washington, D.C. for the Women's Pentagon Action. We held workshops and on November 17 surrounded the Pentagon. Some 150 women were arrested blocking the entrances.
The Women's Pentagon Action, a growing web of local groups from Maine to North Carolina, has set November 15-16 for our return to the Pentagon. This date is close to the anniversaries of the deaths of Karen Silkwood and Yulande Ward. It's an appropriate time for women to gather again in Washington. We will create new sisterhood confronting the Pentagon with the full range of its crimes through our ritual, our demonstration of our strength, our civil disobedience.
All women in the geographic area are welcome and needed in planning and participating in this action. Women in other areas might want to organize supporting actions. If so, contact the Women's Pentagon Action at 339 Lafayette Street, New York, NY 10002 (212-254-4961), or P.O. Box 9306, Washington, D.C. 20005 (202-483-4284).
Cervical Cap (continued from page 11) escape. One woman in the study has had the cap in place continuously for over two years with no ill effects. To become part of the study, you must fit very specific criteria. For more information, write to Dr. Goepp, DDS, the Zoller Clinic, University of Chicago, 950 East 59th Street, Chicago, ILL 60637, or call 312-947-6051. If you would like more information on the cervical cap in general, you may call Suzi Pare, a nurse practitioner at the Cleveland Free Clinic between 3:00 and 10:00 p.m. weekdays (721-4010).
While the cervical cap may not be the last word on birth control, it is a viable option that should be accessible. It is a credit to women's health centers and other concerned medical people that, despite the opposition of the FDA and drug companies, women are asserting their control of contraceptive choices.
